I was visiting my friend Tom today. He is a recovering alcoholic. He used to drink a minimum of a quart of vodka and a twelve pack of beer every day, but has been dry for about two years now.
Sitting in the front yard enjoying our iced tea, his daughter pulled up. She is in her mid/late twenties and is a recovering cocaine addict. She hasn't used in about two years when she realized she would sell her body to get her fix.
Cancer and fatal illness somehow became the topic of conversation and it occured to me, which I shared with them, that coke-addicts and alcoholics never die from cancer, they almost always die from coke or alcohol.
Tom's deceased wife succumbed to cancer. She didn't drink.
I don't drink or do coke either, but I smoke like a train. I am a cigarette addict.
