(Preface: Please understand that the following is based upon opinion and my remedial understanding and someone is probably fully justified to categorize my errant ramblings as the product of a PIBH)

"Top-Blogs".

What is a true top blog? In reality, isn't the system used here on Mindsay the equivalent of a high-school popularity contest? Come on, the number of votes garnered by winners is so pathetically low to indicate most people aren't interested in the damn thing anyway.

And so I ask again: What is a true top blog? TRAFFIC is one of the key elements. Hundreds or thousands of visits a day is the first step. And why would hundreds or thousands of visitors come to your blog every day?

CONTENT is why they come. Provacative, Interesting, Information, Insightful, Creative, or maybe just plain crazy... whatever the focus it is consistent.

You might be surprised to know that there are blogs here on Mindsay valued at thousands of dollars. Many have come, built and gone. And the truly savy bloggers are in the minority. They are smart about how they use their time and talents. It's not rocket science, they're just smart. And it makes sense to be smart about it... if you're going to spend time and expend energy every day on your blog, why not do a little research to see how you might make your cumulative efforts have some actual value at the same time.

Technorati has a few free tools you can google to see what your blog is worth. Most likely it's worth $0, but it is kind of fun to check your favorite blogs. I decided not to put links to the most highly valued Mindsay blogs here. If you're interested, you can find it easily enough yourself.
