More on Blogging and Ad Revenue Generation

I am back to expanding upon a previous post examining how revenue is generated on a free blogsite.

For my first example take a look at the content of THIS blog over at blogspot. Reading through the content. This person, whoever it really is, writes for national magazines and does speaking engagements about blogging.

Take a look at the ad links and the general style. It is good marketing towards the target audience of young, hip, fashion conscious women. This blog attracts over nine-thousand visitors a day. So it is now wonder that technorati has determined its value at $1,134,266.

Does anyone reading this understand how a blog on a free blog site can actually generate an income for the blogger? One way to get a feel for the "blog-market" is to glance at a general statistical analysis of the blogosphere.

  • 85% allow comments on their blogs
  • 33% use Google Adsense
  • 22% use BlogAds
  • 45% generate no revenue
  • 40% generated under $5,000 per year
  • 4% generated over $100,000 per year

It is possibly one of the fastest growing potential markets around and revenue is all about advertising... clicking and links to your blog.

Google AdSense, BlogAds, AdBrite, Fast Click and Burst Media are the top five companies bloggers work through to put revenue generating ads on their blogs.

Metcalf’s law states, “the usefulness, or utility, of a network equals approximately the square of the number of users of the system ”

“Technorati tracks over seven million Weblogs, up from 100,000 two years ago. The Pew Internet study estimates that about 11%, or about 50 million, Internet users are regular Blog readers. A new Weblog is created every 7.4 seconds, which means there are about 12,000 new Blogs a day. Bloggers — people who write Weblogs — update their Weblogs regularly; there are about 275,000 posts daily, or about 10,800 Blog updates an hour.”

To be continued...
