You can make toast with an iron, but you can't iron with a toaster.

It has become obvious to me that most bloggers are thin skinned. It would explain why when you browse through comments they are invariably cute little quips of compliment. But make one comment of criticism and be prepared for paragraphs of run-on sentences in defense.

 

I have fished the waters around Mindsay for a while now. Most assuredly, I am not considered an upstanding member of the "community". I find it farsical anyway to equate the activity here to an actual functioning community of real, face to face individuals. You know, a real community of people where conflicts do arise regularly.

 

This ether. This transcient, evanescent, intangible ether. It is the ideal environment for the masses of socially maladjusted. I have tried to "get it", but I don't.

 

Fifteen years ago I used to write and send a letter every day. And I'm pretty sure the cost of the stamps for those letters was less than the cost of most IPS services. And with the writing of a letter you deliberate and consider and think. You sit on the front porch, you sit on the beach, you sit on your rooftop and you relate thoughts and feelings to another person. Words and sentences are given careful consideration as you edit in your mind. None of that romance and personalization exists here or on any blog site. It doesn't. It can't.

 

Blogs run at a fever pitch. A fever pitch of experience and intellectualism averaging eighteen or nineteen years. It's a fever pitch of self-absorbtion and ego-feeding. It is a venue of fragile fragments of undeveloped ideas and/or a copy and paste/link frenzy.

 

How I long for the forever lost world of letter writing, of actual correspondence and real community where people have ideas and ideals worthy of defending.

 

Finally, in truth the reality is I have nothing important or insightful to share here. I'm not willing to get that personal with complete strangers.
